Music Mania

Michele, Assistant Designer

Consider me your go-to gal for anything music related. First, let me establish my credentials:  I love music. The more you can dance to it, the better. My favorite band is No Doubt followed by The Sounds. I am interested and knowledgeable in all genres. I still listen to Elvis, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones but can’t seem to get enough Janelle Monae. I’ve seen everyone from KISS to Billy Idol (twice) to the Black Eyed Peas.

I’d like to shine some light on the often ignored but super talented ‘Female Fronted Bands.’ Not be confused with All Girl Bands or Female Music Artists. Female Fronted Bands are fabulous because they are making a name for women in music genres (punk, alternative or heavy metal) that are dominated by men. Blondie is one of the pioneers for Female Fronted Bands as Debbie Harry lead the way for not only females but rap artists as well. She officially rapped the first ‘rap’ about aliens coming down from Mars to enjoy the NYC nightlife in a song entitled Rapture.

Some Blondie-inspired bands I recommend you get down with (just like the men from Mars) are: No Doubt, Shiny Toy Guns, Fly Leaf and The Sounds.

About Hanky Panky

In 1977, designer Gale Epstein created a hand-made lingerie set for her friend, Lida Orzeck, crafted out of embroidered handkerchiefs. The original designs were the inspiration for the company name, Hanky Panky. Blending traditional with modern glam looks, Hanky Panky is a fashion favorite of countless celebrities.
