Paris in January

Every January for the past five years, I have made my way to Paris to participate in the Salon International de la Lingerie. In the United States, Hanky Panky is practically a synonym for thong but in the rest of the world, we still have a lot of ground to break. The show this year was outstanding as we had amazing lingerie stores from around the world come to our booth. They were attracted by the fabulous colors we are offering for spring this year. They had no idea who we were or what we were about but they could not resist our compelling color story that was a beacon of light in a sea of very serious bras and panties from around the world.

It was thrilling to be able to show our amazing product but we found that while we can demonstrate all the unique properties of our one size-fits-all thong (“taille unique”), EVERYONE wants our boyshort (“le shorty”). I tried in vain to explain that they really, really needed first to try our one size-fits-all thong but that was an afterthought to them. Le shorty was where they wanted to put their money.

Each day was filled with stores from many countries as well as expats coming to the booth begging to buy our samples because they just cannot find their favorite thong in Paris. Happily, there is a new store on Rue Bonaparte called “The Space” that will begin carrying Hanky Panky in the very near future and we are thrilled to be a part of their ultra hip and cool assortment.

Almost every evening was filled with great dinners with the exception of one dinner at the overpriced Café de la Paix across from the Opera House. We were so excited to be able to spend time with one of our most important accounts in Germany, Ludwig Beck in Munich but seriously regretted taking them to such a tourist trap with poor service and not-so-great food. On the other hand, we spent two wonderful evenings at La Fontaine de Mars near the Eiffel Tower and what a special restaurant that is! I hesitate to even share the name because I want to be sure I can always get a table at this delightful French restaurant with the most amazing food, atmosphere and service.

The French have the best of almost everything. Now they just need to realize that they need the best underwear in the world—Hanky Panky!

About Hanky Panky

In 1977, designer Gale Epstein created a hand-made lingerie set for her friend, Lida Orzeck, crafted out of embroidered handkerchiefs. The original designs were the inspiration for the company name, Hanky Panky. Blending traditional with modern glam looks, Hanky Panky is a fashion favorite of countless celebrities.
