There’s a trend towards achieving simplicity in our lives; reducing the amount of stuff, retaining only what we need and value. There is so much competition for clutter in our space and in our minds that many of us long for the serenity in simplicity.

My design philosophy is to pare a concept to its essence, like a haiku. The company was founded on a simple gift; a lingerie set I made out of embroidered handkerchiefs and gave to Lida for her birthday.

In 1977, I made a bra and panty set from vintage handkerchiefs as a birthday gift for my friend Lida. From this simple gift, our company was born.

After 38 years, Hanky Panky is still a privately owned company, begun and run by Lida and me. We determined early on that it’s important to manufacture in the United States for many reasons, including the ability to offer high quality  products that endure in fashion and function.

So our theme this holiday season is “simple gifts,” inspired by America’s Shaker tradition of simplicity as well as the Shaker song of the same name. Fortunately, we all need underwear and sleepwear, so Hanky Panky is a simple gift – pretty too.

About Hanky Panky

In 1977, designer Gale Epstein created a hand-made lingerie set for her friend, Lida Orzeck, crafted out of embroidered handkerchiefs. The original designs were the inspiration for the company name, Hanky Panky. Blending traditional with modern glam looks, Hanky Panky is a fashion favorite of countless celebrities.
