Hanky Panky will be 33 years old in September. The company was started by myself and my business partner, Gale Epstein. We are still the sole owners and, although the company is much larger now, we still run the company on a daily basis.
Over 20 years ago, Gale took on the challenge of designing a comfortable thong panty, something no one before her was able to achieve. The result was style #4811. Since then, 4811 and its younger sister, 4911—the low rise version—have become classics, are regularly cited as celebrity favorites and have enjoyed a huge amount of “buzz”.
Our thongs (and all of our other styles, as well), start with the best materials and are constructed via the best methods. Our materials must meet strict standards of stretch and softness. Each thong uses over 30 yards of thread. More thread means more stitches per inch, and more stitches means a more durable, high quality product.
Ethics and Sustainability
100% of our fabrics and trims used to make our Signature Lace thongs and panties are knitted in the USA. Even the Supima® cotton fibers used to make the lining are grown in the USA. Hanky Panky has been manufacturing in the Northeast of the USA since 1977. Manufacturing locally saves time, fuel and shipping, thus drastically reducing the generation of CO2. Hanky Panky products have a much smaller carbon footprint than products made overseas. Also, local manufacture keeps our factories where we can see them. We can regularly monitor the quality of our products as well as the working conditions in the plants.
The USA has many laws in place protecting the health and safety of its workers. Sadly, many other countries where apparel is produced have not yet enacted or enforced laws sufficiently protecting its manufacturing workers. Manufacturing in the USA and sourcing USA-made components wherever feasible also keeps Americans employed, thus strengthening our economy.
