Gale, Hanky Panky’s co-founder and Creative Director, still has hers, and last year I learned that at least one other fabulous dame still has hers. Of course, I’m referring to the black and white yarn-dyed plaid 100% cotton flannel robe we first produced about 25 years ago.
We were encouraged to revive this classic kimono-style winter warmer after hearing from Sarah Paulson last August who offered to pay virtually any amount (certainly a touch of hyperbole) if we could whip up a replacement for her sweetheart, Holland Taylor, the other dame mentioned above.
“Whip up” we couldn’t, since the fabric had been out of our inventory for decades and what was now available from the original supplier just didn’t live up to its former high standard. But we finally found a high-end shirting fabric mill in the Czech Republic that was able to reproduce our original fabric, down to its super plush, ultra soft quality.
The one size garment now comes in two lengths—just below the knee or to the ankle. Available exclusively on hankypanky.com while supplies last. Unless, of course, you’re willing to wait another 25 years!
